Montgomery Public School Arboretum

Montgomery Public Schools Arboretum
CCMGA’s “Children in Nature Project”

Where do third grade students in Montgomery schools love to visit?  Why, it’s the M.P.S. Arboretum, an Outdoor Education Classroom certified by Alabama Wildlife Federation, Outdoor Alabama, and 4-H, located at.  Depending on the season, students might be identifying animal tracks, fishing, identifying trees, gathering eggs from the chickens, living like a Pilgrim, or a variety of other outdoor activities. In addition to hosting children’s projects and summer Junior Master Gardener events, the Arboretum has conducted numerous programs for adults, from creating hypertufa planters, starting seeds indoors, wreath making, to outdoor education sessions for elementary and secondary educators.  A.U.M. and high school students also find time to visit the Arboretum and explore the many facets of an outdoor classroom.
We serve students in grades pre K – 12. We are the system field trip for all the 3rd grade students in Montgomery Public Schools and are a certified Outdoor Education Classroom  by AWF and Outdoor Alabama and 4-H.
