MBG Project Volunteer Day

Please join the MBG Project Committee members for our regular volunteer day in the gardens on the third Tuesday of July. There are specific tasks that will need to be accomplished. See below. Everyone is encouraged to come help with this project that is a great asset to our city and visitors. You will also be able to observe the rapid progress being made on construction of the new MBG Pedestrian Entrance where the sign for the gardens will be erected.
Committee members and team leaders, if you prefer to begin work earlier, that is fine. Just inform your team members and begin the tasks that are listed below.
Garden Tasks for CCMGA Project Volunteers 7/15/25
PHASE I –
A. Entrance, Sensory Garden, Bulb Garden and along pathway
Check entrance to see if trimming/deadheading is needed Prop up leaning Echinacea, see photo, deadhead as needed in these areas, make sure plant material is not blocking irrigation heads. Deadhead and Consider thinning Cannas Check recently planted Hydrangeas and see if they need anything. B. Pollinator Gardens –
Pollinator 1 – Prune hot lips salvia and maybe Muhly Grass because it is blocking irrigation that is shared by Azaleas. See photo Prune purple Asters because they are encroaching on walkway Plant Herbs in previous Dye Garden spot Pollinator 2 – Plant Hostas (currently in greenhouse, will arrange to bring them down) on left of the “dry creek” rock bed and on right of the tree on the other end. Mulch is piled where the previous beige tarp lay, and it is to be used around the Hostas after they are planted. Pollinator 3 – Prune the Hot lips Salvia away from the struggling Daylily beneath it. Check the Dutchman’s Pipe Vine, it may need feeding and reattaching to the trellis. Deadhead plants as needed.
PHASE II –
Install Plant ID signs for each Japanese Maple Tree, matching ID sign to metal sign attached to each tree. (Cathy will bring the signs)
